چکیده

The cortical response of the cat to light fashes has been studied, the locus of greatest amplitude of response noted, and the conformation described. Recordings through the dura indicate that there is diminution of the response amplitude and reduction of localization caused by the dura. The effects of stimulus parameter changesy of application of strychnine locally, and of intravenous pentobarbital were noted.

Primed-burst potentiation in adult rat visual cortex in vitro

The effectiveness of θ pattern primed-bursts (PBs) on development of primed-burst (PB) potentiation was investigated in layer II/III of the adult rat visual cortex in vitro. Experiments were carried out in the visual cortical slices. Population excitatory post-synaptic potentials (pEPSPs) were evoked in layer II/III by stimulation of either white mater or layer IV. To induce long-term potenti...

Effect of locus ceruleus phasic electrical stimulation on responses of barrel cortical cells to controlled mechanical displacement in rats

Behavioral and electrophysiological evidences have shown that locus ceruleus (LC) is involved in different tasks including modulation of sensory processing and shift of attention. In the present study, single unit responses of barrel cortical cells was recorded following controlled mechanical displacement of the principal and peripheral vibrissae in adult rats (100 trials of 200 µm deflection f...

Regional cerebral blood flow and visual attention in the awake isolated cerebrium of the pretrigeminal cat.

The effect of visual stimulation on cerebral blood flow (CBF) was studied in five cats with brainstem transection at the pretrigeminal level. The CBF was measured in the occipital and frontal cortex by external monitoring of the clearance of 133Xe. As a visual stimulus, a feather duster moving for 2 min in front of the cat’s eyes was used. This stimulus evoked an increase of CBF. In the occipit...

Dynamics and constancy in cortical spatiotemporal patterns of orientation processing.

How does the high selectivity to stimulus orientation emerge in the visual cortex? Thalamic feedforward-dominated models of orientation selectivity predict constant selectivity during the visual response, whereas intracortical recurrent models predict dynamic improvement in selectivity. We imaged the cat visual cortex with voltage-sensitive dyes to measure orientation-tuning dynamics of a large...

Electrophysiological study on colliculo-cerebellar pathway in cat.

The retino-colliculo-cerebellar and visual cortical-cerebellar pathways were reexamined by means of latency measurement of evoked potentials on 50 immobilized cats. I. The vermian cerebellar response to optic nerve stimulation was a large positive wave sometimes superimposed by small waves in the decay phase. The positive wave was considered to originate from the mossy fiber system, based on th...
